Licensing and Alliances- Strategic Tools for Biotechs
All too often biotechs see alliances and collaborations as necessary evils - to be deferred and minimized wherever possible. Our view is different. We see collaborations as a central component of any successful, sustainable biotech strategy, because we believe that:
- Fundamental forces are increasing both the volume and ambition of collaborations.
- Well-executed collaborations have huge potential to create value (although poorly structured or timed deals and badly managed relationships can be highly destructive).
- In the future, a deal-by-deal approach is not going to be enough. Companies will have to be proactive in designing their network of alliances and build skills in managing and incentivizing these multiple relationships.
