EU foreign ministers to launch Georgia mission  [FR] [DE]

EU foreign ministers will meet today and tomorrow (5 and 6 September) in the French city of Avignon to launch a civilian monitoring mission in Georgia, as decided at the recent extraordinary EU summit. But such a mission's ability to control the entire territory of Georgia, including South Ossetia and Abkhazia, remains in doubt.


Internal spats dim Ukraine's EU accession chances  [DE]

Kiev's pro-Western coalition collapsed on Thursday (3 September), just days ahead of a crucial EU-Ukraine summit. MEPs and diplomats in Brussels expressed their consternation over renewed in-fighting between President Viktor Yushchenko and his prime minister, Yulia Timoshenko, former 'Orange Revolution' allies.
