Environmental pressure from transport continues to increase

A new scientific report published by the European Environment Agency underlines the urgent need to rethink the link between economic growth and growth in transport. The TERM 2001 report, which was published just a few days before the informal joint Transport/Environment Council, indicates that rapidly-growing road and air transport pose increasing threats to the environment and human health.
