Pat Cox elected EP President in third round

The Irish liberal Pat Cox (ELDR) has been elected President of the European Parliament for the next two and a half years. After three ballots, Pat Cox won with an absolute majority of 298 votes, against 237 votes for his main opponent, the socialist David Martin (PES).
