Verheugen promises new strategy for Bulgaria and Romania
Enlargement Commissioner Günter Verheugen announced that the Commission would propose an enhanced pre-accession strategy and road-map for all the candidate countries unable to finish accession negotiations this year. In his address to a Forum Europe conference on enlargement in Brussels on 25 April, Mr Verheugen also stated that the EU pre-accession strategy for Turkey should move into a new stage.
