Cyprus talks crucial for EU enlargement
Leaders of the Greek and the Turkish sides of the divided island of Cyprus are meeting on 4 December to try to break the 26-year deadlock in the peace process as Cyprus prepares to join the EU in 2004. Cyprus is scheduled to finish accession negotiations with the EU next year. However, only the Greek part of the island is preparing for participation in the Union, while the EU is trying to bring both nations to the negotiation table.
