EU gets emergency powers on food safety
The EU's Regulation on food law, introducing emergency powers to take steps in case of new food scares, has entered into force on 21 February 2002. The Regulation also replaces the Standing Veterinary Committee and other committees on plant health, animal nutrition and foodstuffs, by a single "Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health".
