EU prepares new Schengen Information System to integrate candidates

The European Parliament discussed on 22 October a Belgian-Swedish proposal for a Council Decision on the development of the second generation Schengen information system (SIS) in view of EU enlargement. The 12 current candidate countries will take part in SIS, which was designed for a maximum of 18 Member States, therefore the development of a new generation of SIS is urgent.
