European Parliament urges Turkey to pursue constitutional reforms
The European Parliament (EP) has urged Turkey to continue with current constitutional reforms, adopted by the Turkish parliament in September in order to meet EU membership criteria. In a report on Turkey's progress towards accession, adopted on 24 October, MEPs said that the amended Turkish constitution should guarantee "a fully functioning democratic state, transparent governance on the basis of the rule of law and specifically with respect for individual and collective rights and freedoms".
