Europeans step up mediation efforts in Middle East

Following continuing acts of violence, EU governments are stepping up diplomatic efforts in the Middle East to call on all parties to stop violence in favour of dialogue and negotiation. Some European governments have also taken the initiative to try to arrange a cease-fire in the region because they are concerned about the Bush administration's "hands-off approach".
