Fischler opposes immediate full implementation of CAP in future EU members
The EU's Farm Commissioner, Franz Fischler, told the participants of the International Green Week in Berlin that it would be "completely wrong to believe that we can simply transfer the existing CAP directly to the applicant countries on the day they join the EU". Mr Fischler said that a period of transition is needed after accession during which the EU's common agricultural policy would be gradually introduced in the new members.
