Spanish Presidency seeks to finalise enlargement talks on agriculture
The Spanish Agriculture Minister, Miguel Arias Canete, told the European Parliament in Brussels on 7 January that Spain would like to finalise the enlargement negotiations on agriculture by the end of its six-month term. He said that farm aid to the new members should be phased in over a period of at least five years, and that they should receive only up to 30 per cent of direct subsidies upon joining.
