Josef Auer from Deutsche Bank Research reflects on the US energy policy development since the sixties and comments on the impact of the new American Energy Act from 2005, which he thinks « merely provides the initial impetus for the period when fossil energy sources become more scarce. »

He argues that « further crisis will probably have to occur before the necessary steps are taken to substantively change US energy policy ». Josef Auer concludes that if there is no fundamental change in the US energy policy, « it will fail to improve its position in the international energy and environmental movement. »
