Prime minister states France will make initiative on Tobin tax in Liège

French prime minister Lionel Jospin announced a French initiative for a Tobin tax following pressure from the anti-globalisation movement. This is the first time a leader from a large industrial nation accepts the idea of a tax on cross-border capital movements as part of government policy.
